Although Discord is no.1 free video, voice and text chat app today but there may be instances when your Discord might not work or connect properly and keeps you waiting for long to connect to your friends and colleagues.

Poor internet connection, voice server problems, enabled VPN, high traffic or ruined app data may cause the Discord not connecting issue. Hence, you need to first identify whether the Discord not working issue is arising at your end or there is some problem in the Discord services itself. For this, you can first inspect the Discord status at https://discordstatus.com/.  If there are some issues at Discord’s end, then you need to wait for some time but if everything is alright from Discord’s side, then the problem is at your end and can be fixed within few minutes below:

How to fix Discord not connecting issue?

  1. Check the network settings

Poor network connection or enabled proxy server can be the major issue for Discord connection issues hence you can fix your issue by either connecting to another network or by making changes in your proxy settings. To disable your proxy server, press the windows button, then go to settings and click on Network & internet. Then choose Proxy and disable the use of a Proxy server located below the manual proxy setup. Now, start Discord and check if the connection error is rectified or not. If this doesn’t help, then try another method below.

  1. End the Discord task

Sometimes closing all the tasks of Discord in the task manager resolves the connection issues of a Discord. Hence proceed to the task manager by pressing ctrl+Alt+Del key altogether and select Discord application. Now you need to right click on End task and Discord not connecting issue will be resolved.

  1. Switch the DNS servers

DNS settings can also cause the Discord connection issues, so change your DNS server settings by typing ncpa.cpl in the run dialog box, then switch to your network properties and check the DNS servers under the IPV4 option. There change your preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS server as 8.8.4.4 and save the changes.
